Common issues explored in counselling

Clients come to counselling with a variety of issues and problems that they want to talk through, make sense of, or solve.  Anxiety and depression are the most commonly cited.  Sometimes however, people come to work out how to get more from what may be a currently unproblematic life.  Very often the issue clients come with is quite different to the one they end up working on.  I've listed some of the topics of conversation below - you'd be surprised what can be covered.

Research tells us that the approach adopted by the therapist is less important than the relationship you have with them.  Therefore, it's important for us to have an initial chat to see how we get on.  There's no commitment at that stage, and you may need time to be sure therapy is right for you.  However a short discussion may just help you to feel comfortable enough to start exploring your thoughts and emotions further.
