
How to Deal with Fairies in Boxing Gloves
This story is designed for young people who are struggling with mental health issues, where self-help strategies may be useful. It can also be used in conjunction with a counsellor to help focus the attention on specific issues and provide ‘homework’ strategies. Although simply expressed, the exercise is based on a mixture of psychotherapeutic approaches including Mindfulness, CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Transactional Analysis. It is designed to provide a method to organise a mind which seems to have taken on a life of its own and refuses to be calmed or reasoned with. The techniques can be read in an hour or so, but take a lifetime to master. It has had amazing results in practise.
